Recap: Fashion’s Living Canvas

Fashion’s Living Canvas was a feast for the eyes.  All of Dallas was decked to the hills. I spotted local style icons, reality stars, drag kings and queens, glamour everywhere, big hats, see through dresses, and glittery shoes.

The people watching was equally as fun as the show.  The event featured four clothing and two jewelry collections: IZAVEL by Isabel Varela had a particularly spectacular black, mid-calf-dusting trench dress, with a back panel that was streaked black and white, the way a newspaper’s ink might run if caught in a drizzle. It was both dazzling and sophisticated.  I loved the designs by Jesse Thaxton played lovingly with proportions, mixing animalistic, sky-scraping collars to coats that left us reminiscing of supper clubs.

Danh Ta’s self-titled collection brought another must-wear outfit with a sophisticated, but well-tailored ivory shell paired with a flirty black leather skirt. Society Language by Prashi Shah closed out the show, and did so correctly by sending look after look of beautiful, desirable dresses. The  updated caftans winked back to ’60s Vogue while still keeping it fresh and young, and the color choices for the cocktail dresses were unmatched. And as always the tailoring was immaculate. We can’t forget about the co-hosts LeeAnne Locken and Steve Kemble… “The show was truly one of the most amazing shows I have been involved with! It was non-stop action and I truly loved every moment of it!! My favorite designers from the show were Prashi Shah, Isabel Varela and jewelry designer Chelsea Bond, says Kemble.”

The stories I could tell from the after party, but I have agreed to keep mum for now. I will just show you photos of  some of the fun you missed.

First a quick catch up with some of the designers from the show:

BV: What’s next for everyone?
TIffiny Luong from Motives Cosmetics: “We are growing everyday and helping makeup artist everywhere achieve their dreams. Our next big event will be a FREE makeup  professional seminar on May 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the South Side of Lamar. The event will teach makeup artist about growing their business. Then I’m off  to Toronto  to do some work for some clients.”
Prashi Shah: I’m dedicated to the continued development of her new label, Society Language. Expect to see an exciting Fall 2012 collection in the next 6 weeks.

Isabel Varela of IZAVEL: “I have been meeting with numerous boutique owners and is thrilled to announce several pieces from her Fall/Winter 2012 collection will be available in stores in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. I have also received tremendous local exposure with a D Magazine feature that highlighted 5 local designers.”

{Red-i} By Chelsea. “I’ll be traveling to the Mediterranean at the end of May to soak up more inspiration, continuing to design for clients around the world (wedding and non-wedding) and working with an Australian online boutique (hasn’t officially launched yet) to design a custom line for her site. I’m also working towards securing partnerships with non-profit women’s groups in Africa and Asia to help manufacture jewelry while supporting their dreams for financial independence.”
