Raffi is a singer-songwriter and children’s entertainer that has been around ever since I was a little girl. His songs were a part of my childhood and I’m happy to be able to share the songs from Singable Songs for the Very Young with my son.
There are 19 fun and catchy songs on this album. Some of the songs are originals and some are creative cover renditions and all of the songs are fun to sing along to. Raffi’s voice is fun and easy to listen to. The album has been around since 1976 and it continues to be a timeless bestseller.
Raffi was encouraged to record this album because he believed that there was a lack of good music available for children. He says, on the cover art of the album, “But children deserve good music too! And that’s the very idea behind this album. It contains a great variety of easily singable songs; some counting, some rhyming, some kinda funny, and some almost pensive; some songs feature the voice and some highlight the instruments; some old classics, and some brand new songs to learn; some old songs made fresh, and even some instrumental solos (junior jazz!).”
My son has loved music ever since he was an infant. The second I say the words “dance” or “music” he instantly starts dancing and heads over to the CD player to turn on his Raffi CD. My son’s favorite song to sing along to is “Brush Your Teeth.” He sings along to the “ch ch ch chuh” part of the song and he never gets tired of it. I love that “Brush Your Teeth,” “Going To The Zoo,” and “The Sharing Song” all educate while you listen and sing along. The CD cover includes the lyrics and there are also notes that instruct the parent with tips on how to further engage your children.
Raffi’s music is incredibly entertaining for the entire family. My husband loves to sing, “Five Little Frogs” with my son. He sings it with a theatrical voice that entertains my son, as well as me. One of the reasons I love this particular album is because there are songs that represent different holidays like, “Must Be Santa,” “My Dreydel,” and “Five Little Pumpkins.” It is clear that Raffi felt that it was important to learn while you are having fun. He put together an album with singable songs that everyone would love.
Make a peanut-butter sandwich for your kids and yourself and listen to “Peanut Butter Sandwich,” and you’ll sure be singing along saying, “yum, yum, yummy yum yum!”

I love this! I grew up listening to Raffi and am now enjoying his songs again with my own children.
