Mother’s Day Weekend In New Orleans

Happy Mother's Day!

“Don’t make me turn this car around.”

Those are the words I said to my mom last Mother’s Day when she began to protest the Sunday Brunch I had planned.

“It’s too expensive!” She argued.
“Don’t talk back.” I said with an ear to ear smile.

Mother’s Day Brunch in New Orleans is somewhat of a requirement. (Yes, mom, if all my friends take their mother’s out for brunch on Mother’s Day I will follow them.)

My mom comes into the city from a small town in Texas so it’s hard to decide if she’s an Uptown Girl, where we would most certainly eat at The Columns Hotel or if she’ll be in a Downtown mood this year. In which case, you will find us at The Court of Two Sisters. Both have brunch from 11am – 3pm, so maybe we’ll go to one place at 11 and the other at 3!

New Orleans’ Queen of Soul, Irma Thomas, plays a free concert at Audubon Zoo in the afternoon.
Admission into the zoo is under $12! While I don’t think my mom will fit in a stroller, I think I will buy her some cotton candy.
Earth Savers Spa has gifts of candles, lounge wear, facials and massages for mom.

The Loft has partnered with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to celebrate Mother’s Day in a special way. Purchase a Loft Cares card and 90 percent of the proceeds will be donated to St. Jude and you will get 20 percent off your shopping trip. If you shop on Saturday, May 12, you and mom can create your own artwork, together!

Sadly, my mom and I will not be creating our own artwork together this year. Instead, we will be strengthening our hearts together with the Girls on the Run 5K run/walk. Which is a national event and you can find more details here

I hope to see you all at one of these fantastic events!
