Women Lead 2012 Country Music Television Music Awards Nominations

On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, Nashville will unroll the red carpet for one of its biggest nights of the year — the CMT (Country Music Television) Music Awards. In its 11th year, the CMT Awards air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena downtown and honor the year’s top country music singers. The action-packed event his the only viewer-voted award show in all of country music–making it most unique and exciting for fans who can vote from now until June 4 on CMT’s website for their favorite country music videos.

The top award of the night, Video of the Year, will be awarded at the very end of the show. A shorter list of nominees will be announced at the beginning and then fans and viewers will be able to vote throughout the live broadcast to determine the ultimate winner. This year, women top nominations giving credit to the girls in country music who have made huge waves this past year. Carrie Underwood leads the pack with five awards including two nominations in the coveted Video of the Year category — her new single “Good Girl” and her duet with Brad Paisley titled “Remind Me.” Miranda Lambert (Mrs. Blake Shelton), who has been an award show favorite this past year, collected four nominations including two with her girl group Pistol Annies. This is the first time the group has been nominated for a CMT Award with their hit breakout single “Hell on Heels.”

It’s also no surprise that country music darling Taylor Swift is also up for Female Video of the Year with her song “Ours,” as well as Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year for her collaboration with The Civil Wars, “Safe & Sound” created for the hit movie soundtrack from “The Hunger Games. Miss Swift has three nominations this year along with Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Thompson Square and The Civil Wars. 

Perhaps most exciting are the nominees for Breakthrough Video of the Year which recognizes the genre’s newest and up-and-coming stars. Brantley Gilbert (“Country Must Be Country Wide”), Hunter Hayes (“Storm Warning”),  Thompson Square (“I Got You”), and American Idol’s Lauren Alaina (“Georgia Peaches”) and 2011 winner Scotty McCreery (“The Trouble With Girls” ) top the list this year.

Nominations were officially announced on NBC’s ‘Today’ Show with Hoda Kotb and live guests Little Big Town, who are nominated themselves for Performance of the Year for their rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You” at the Music Builds: The CMT Disaster Relief Concert show which took place last May.
