Strides Against Stigma is committed to erasing the social stigma surrounding depression disorders. On April 28th, participants will get together for a Walk-A-Thon to take 2 Million Strides and work to raise $50,000 to continue the cause.
According to the organization website, depression affects 1 in every 8 teenagers, and 20 million adults in the U.S. every year. Depression is the leading cause of suicide. Many people struggling with the symptoms of depression don’t seek help because they’re afraid or ashamed.
Strides Against Stigma aims to get rid of that stigma and raise awareness of the prevalence of depressive disorders and build a community dedicated to erasing that stigma. Participants can register as individuals or as a team, with each team or individual pledging strides they will take during the event. There will also be entertainment, raffles, prizes, celebrity appearances, and games for participants and supporters!
