Originally from South Carolina, Leslie Silver earned her Journalism degree at Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!) and moved to the Big Apple right after school. After six years in the city she was ready for a change of lifestyle and weather and made the move to Austin. Leslie works in hospitality public relations and loves to take her experience of trying top-notch clients around the world and using those experiences to critique spas and restaurants all over central Texas.

Leslie is a Huge dog lover, outdoorswoman, avid reader and has a healthy obsession with the show Parks and Recreation. Though living in Austin for less than a year, she’s already experience quite a lot and can’t wait to learn, explore and write about everything she discovers in the next year.

Austin Food And Wine Festival Events At The W Austin

Trace restaurant and the W Hotel are hosting several events in anticipation of the upcoming Austin Food & Wine Festival.  First, New York pastry chef Pichet Ong and Trace’s own Executive Pastry Chef (and former protégé of Ong), Janina O’Leary will be reuniting to host a dessert event at Trace: Late Night Sweet Treats.  Author of “The Sweet Spot” Chef Ong has been named one of the Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America by Pastry Arts & Design.

The courses include Barely Buzzed (a delightful crema panna cotta, lavender & round rock honey biscuit); Cream Soda (a market berry vanilla swirl ice cream, black pepper geniose and Dr. Pepper reduction) and finally a Smoked Chocolate Cream Beignet consisting of dulce de leche and caramelized white chocoloate chili ice cream.

The W’s in-house libationist Joyce Garrison will be pairing drinks with each course include her signatures: a deconstructed aviation and the pineapple kid.  Then the night will finish with assorted petite fours.

The food and drink lifestyle website Food Republic is hosting a Test Kitchen and interview lounge at The Living Room at the W.  The site, launched in spring 2011 and co-founded by Chef and James Beard winner Marcus Samuelson, explores a unique side of food conversations by showcasing a variety of content and unique interviews with not just food persoalities but musicians, athletes and actors that are interested in the culinary world.

The lounge will give guests the opportunity to speak to chefs, musicians and entertainers all in town for the weekend’s Food & Wine Festival.  The Food Republic team will also be on hand to film cooking demos in Trace’s kitchen with noted chefs and Austin culinary personalities.
