Her latest dream come true has been travel writing for Johnny Jet.

After teaching in the Maryland public school system for almost a decade, she left the conservative East Coast environment in Washington, DC for West Coast living. Eager for adventure, inner growth, and a new environment, she packed her car and took to the open road on her own landing in her new home - Hollywood, California. As a Connecticut Yankee at heart, she has now lived in Los Angeles for six years surrounded by the stars.

Melissa graduated from Gettysburg College with a double major in psychology and art history. Soon after, she earned a Master's Degree in education. Melissa traveled around the world on Semester at Sea, and earned a Fulbright Scholarship which enabled her to teach in England. A lust for travel and learning has fueled her globe trotting ever since. Some of her favorite destinations are Costa Rica, Thailand, Fiji, Morocco, Vietnam, Belgium, Italy, Sicily, Prague, Egypt, Australia, Greece, and Paris.

Los Angeles has won over her heart. She is constantly taking advantage of what LA LA Land has to offer - new boutiques and restaurants, finding great deals, discovering new hikes and beaches, music, and West Coast fashion.

I had a chance to sit down with both gorgeous girls with their to-die-for accents and and ask them a few questions about life as a Victoria Secret model.  Both girls were incredibly lovely and down to earth, and perhaps not what you would imagine from a girl in a bikini with heels. Definitely none of that LA attitude!

Candice Swanepoel, who is just 23 years old comes from South Africa, and has been an Angel for about 5 years.

How is it being a VS Angel? Do you spend time with the other VS Angels?

It totally changed my life. I was modeling for a couple years before VS and traveling around and learning how to work with different people every day and I could never make relationships with people, and then Victoria secret found me.  It is a totally different part of the fashion industry.  I am really lucky to have found them as well.  It really is like a family. I work with the same hair and make-up all the time and they have become my friends. I don’t have a lot of time to see anyone else.  We all know each others lives and it’s like a whole soap opera.

I do a lot of print campaigns with the other VS models.  I see a lot of Erin (Heatherton) and Lilly (Aldridge). It’s really hard to keep relationships when you are in this business because we are in a different place all the time.  It’s crazy. I see a lot of Behati because she lives two blocks from me in New York.  That’s easy.

What are some of the latest trends in swimwear that you like?

I am so thankful that America is finally getting with the small bum. It is so much more flattering and this whole collection that is inspired by Brazil. There’s the cheeky bum. It’s more flattering for a woman’s body no matter what size you are.  My favorite pieces from the Collection are the neons. There is a suit that I am wearing on the cover that is mix of animal print and jungle print, kind of Amazon inspired. I really love that and is is also adjustable. The bottoms are adjustable. But what I love about this collection is you can mix so many things together.  I once went on the beach and the girl next to me had the same bathing suit on and she was so voluptuous (before I was a VS model) and I was like OMG. Now you can customize and make your own bikini. I don’t know if you have seen the VS website allows you to mix and match, so you can see different looks. That’s really fun to play with.

What are some of your best tips for getting your bikini bod ready for swimsuit season?

I have to say focus on the bum.  That may be the most important thing.  You have to find something that you are interested in and you don’t get bored too quickly. I change my music a lot when I work out.  I wear sexy stuff when I work out because it kind of inspires me a little bit more.  Then, always being active.  Even if I feel really lazy I put yoga on Youtube and do something and at least I feel better.

Do you have any tips for looking great poolside? (LOVE her answer)

I am more of a hippy girl so I prefer the beach to a pool.  I see in Miami sometimes people with heels on and the whole glamour goddess thing. I wouldn’t know to be honest. I enjoy shooting like that, but I don’t know if I can be in heels while I am trying to relax while getting some sun.

What are you must-have beach items?

For blonds especially some conditioning spray or just any treatment for your hair because your hair gets really dry from the ocean.  Sunglasses always, and I always have paddle ball (pro Kadima) because it helps me stay active on the beach.

Would you ever do a reality show or a film?

If they did it on Victoria Secret, I would. It would be really interesting. I wouldn’t be good with a camera on me at all times.  I do enjoy my private time.

Miranda Kerr, the 29 year old brunette from Australia couldn’t wait to get out of her strappy heals and cool her sore feet off in the pool.

What are your top two beauty trends or must-haves?

Definitely a great bikini and I’m loving the neon because it is fun, fashionable, feminine.  Why not embrace that feminine side?

You look incredible after having a child not too long ago. What are some of your secrets or best tips or having a bikini bod?

I have so many tips, but generally speaking I practice yoga. I think that has played a major part in keeping my body in shape. Also, now since the baby, doing pilates because you can really focus on specific areas of your body that you can strengthen and tone and it is really great for core strength.  Eating healthy plays a major role too, but not depriving yourself either.  You try to do the best that you can, but  sometimes if you feel like some french fries, it’s OK, just don’t eat them every day.

Do you have any at-home beauty remedies or crazy beauty secrets that you do at home?

I have a lot of those. Sometimes you can mash cucumbers and do a cool cucumber mask, especially if you wake up and you are feeling puffy.  It’s de-puffing and revitalizing for the face. I have my own skincare line called KORA Organics and I created products that I have been looking for that I haven’t been able to find and we ship to 180 countries. It’s also made in Australia and bio-organic.

When you go on a vacation, how many suits do you pack? How do you travel?

I think swimsuits are an easy thing to pack because they don’t take up a lot of space, especially if you have string bikinis and triangle bikinis, you can get a few different colors. I also like to have a variety of bikinis so then you don’t get a tan line, so I will have a bandeau, then a halter…different styles so you can avoid tan lines, same with the bottoms as well.  I also like wearing a full piece swimsuit because I think it is very sexy, but it is not the best for tan lines.  It is nice to wear sometimes.

Are their any charities that you support?

Yes, in Australia I support this service called Kid’s Helpline, which is a service where young children from 5 to 25 can call and they get free counseling and advice.  They have saved a lot of people’s lives on a daily basis. It is where someone can call and talk about any problems they are having. They get a professional’s opinion. I am also an ambassador for Earth Hour. I believe if we all make small changes we can make a big impact on the world and just doing things, like offsetting your miles, making sure you fill the dishwasher up before you run it, having shorter showers, using energy efficient light bulbs, recycling,…just all the little things we can do to make a big difference to the world. I’m saying let’s do the best we can with what we have.

What’s on your playlist right now?

I like this band called The XX. I love ElectroLane and I love this band that use to play with Kings of Leonne and them too.  The lead singer of Kings of Leonne is married to Lily (Aldridge). They are good friends of ours. If I could have one band play the VS Fashion Show, it would be The XX. I think it is sexy. I like how they sing to each other, a man and a woman.
