Spot Dessert Bar On St. Marks Place In New York

On a street filled with culture and trendy restaurants lies the Spot Dessert Bar. Located on St. Marks Place in an underground setting, this intimate take out/dine in dessert bar is a “must try.” After hearing rave reviews, I was eager to see what the hype was about. The interior is both simplistic and modern, with wooden seating and an open window that looks up to the busy street. When we first arrived, I was surprised that we were seated instantly. The servers were helpful and knowledgeable of everything on the menu, which made it hard to choose which desserts to try.

For drinks, we sampled their Iced Ovaltine and a Black Milk Bubble Tea. If you are unsure what Bubble Tea is, it is a milk tea beverage served with chewy tapioca starch balls. Its contrast of textures and creamy taste makes it easily a “year round” drink. The Iced Ovaltine was a comforting “blast of the past” as it put us in a nostalgic mood.

Spot Dessert Bar’s overall message is all natural desserts & beverages with Asian influences and creative ingredients. The presentation of the plating was creative and extremely thought out. From serving the Green Tearamisu in a planter’s box, to the contrast colors of the green tea ice cream against the rich chocolate lava cake or the deep raspberry sorbet against the Miso Semifreddo cake, the artistic details do not go unappreciated.

Taste-wise, the desserts were light yet still subdued the sweet tooth. The Chocolate Green Tea Lava cake was decadent, yet light. While the usual American delicacy is served with gooey chocolate filling and decadent vanilla ice cream, this play on the dessert features a green tea-white chocolate ganach and a side of green tea ice cream. Other desserts such as the White Miso Semifreddo played on the sweet and salty cravings, served with Raspberry sorbet. The Spot Dessert Bar also serves a variety of other pastries and ice creams. From Macarons to Cupcakes to Ice Cream Sandwiches, this venue has everything you could crave.
