As a Women Studies major, certified Pilates instructor and owner of New Body Pilates Studio in West Seattle, Megan Phillips is especially interested in communicating ideas about health and well being. Her overarching goal is to create a platform where women can reconnect with their bodies, learn about health, nutrition, beauty and fashion, providing them with the knowledge they need to live their best lives. She firmly believes that one creates the most effective change in the world when one is working from a solid foundation of a healthy body, mind and spirit. Other than her passion for health and fitness, she is also interested in exploring societal trends and timely topics and has been published in both Seattle Magazine and Seattle Bride Magazine. She is also an avid snowboarder and surfer, and enjoys hiking, backpacking, sailing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. More cerebral pursuits include a love of reading (especially on the beach!), and nerd alert: doing math.

Recap: The Bar Method Seattle-Eastside

Last week I went in for the knee-quaking, booty-blasting Bar Method workout at their beautiful facility in new “it” neighborhood South Lake Union, and I couldn’t have been happier–or sweatier. I tend to be wary of new workout trends mostly because of injury risk, but when I was done with the 5:15 p.m. Bar Method class with owner Bev Currier (she co-owns it with her husband Luke Currier) I felt lengthened, stretched and definitely strengthened. The next day I was sore, but not debilitated, probably because there was a stretch with every strengthening component which I think is integral to conditioning properly.

As if you needed an additional reason to try the butt-kickin’ Bar Method class, this month they are offering a March Madness Challenge: For every client who takes 16 or more Bar Method classes in the month of March, they will donate $10 to the Ben Towne Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. According to co-owner Luke Currier. “Last September, [they] had a Take 10 for Ben Challenge and were able to donate $2,500 to the Foundation.” It’s win-win! You get a bikini ready body and more importantly, you get to do some good for a fantastic local charity. When you go in, ask about their $99 special: They offer one month of unlimited classes for new members, available for purchase only on the day of a client’s first visit. Classes tend to fill up fast (my class had about 40 people); you can view their current schedule by clicking here.
