Style X: Austin’s Fashion Show in Step with Austin’s SXSW

Style X is ready for its second year of amazing fashion, excitement and diverse style.  Last year over 15,000 people visited Style X and spent more than $200,000 on merchandise in just 18 hours!  Style X (pronounced: “Style By”) is a two-day show that will serve as a shopping experience to match SXSW Music’s energy and diversity.

“Style By is where emerging fashion from around the world is showcased in front of the coolest and most buzz worthy creators of all things music, film and interactive.”  Style X will kick off on Thursday March 15th with the Style X Music Showcase presented by Charming Charlie from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m in the Victorian Room at the Driskill Hotel with special performances by Niki & The Dove, B. Bravo and Letting Up Despite Great Faults to name a few.

Style X and all its action is set for Friday and Saturday, March 16th and 17th, from noon to 8 p.m. in Exhibit Hall 4 at the spacious Austin Convention Center where guests can view the latest fashion trends, creative brands, styles, and learn more about the inspirations behind the designer’s ideas and creations.  Ongoing panels on both days of Style X will include noteworthy panelists discussing the latest topics and trends in fashion, technology, business and media.  Style X will present styles and designers from around the world including men and women’s streetwear, onsite screen printing and design, swimwear and accessories.  There will be four fashion shows and many SXSW Music’s artists will be modeling the designs.

The Style X runway shows are free and open to the public between 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on both days of the event.  Esteemed designers participating this year include Rachel Roy, Kendra Scott, Cynthia Steffe and Amal Safdar.   “It’s such an honor to be a part of the Style X team and bring my experiences working with well known brands in New York to support emerging designers here in Austin, a city I love and am so happy to call my home,” Safdar declared.  For years now, Austin has been enjoying and celebrating the new and up and coming music from bands all over the world.  It is only a natural evolution to now include new styles and the up and coming designers from around the globe.

Joah Spearman and Jon Pattillo are the founders of avecMODE, a full-service production service specializing in pop-up retail events that combine emerging style with the music and entertainment industries.  avecMode produces Style X in cooperation with the South By Southwest Music, Film and Interactive conference.  It should be noted that Joah Spearman was also a finalist in the Austin Under 40 Awards this year!  Both Joah and Jon agree, “At Style X, we prove that it’s up to all of us – not just the “elite”- to do our individual part to take this bottoms-up style-centric approach all the way to the top of those ivory towers of fashion, and tell them, emphatically; this time, only we can decide what is in.”
