Monica Hoekstra is not only a co-owner, but also the creator and founder of Core Barre and the Core Barre system of Smart Movement. Core Barre is one of the latest styles of fitness to hit the country, and who better to take classes from than the creator herself? Core Barre promotes high energy, low impact, and fat burning based on elements of pilates, ballet and athletic conditioning. By participating in Core Barre you will not only see a physical improvement, but also an improvement in your general wellness and daily living. It is safe for all fitness levels and the instructors will provide modifications if you have injuries or any special needs. I can tell you from personal experience that Core Barre is a wonderful workout. I have had the pleasure of taking instruction from Monica for many months. She is like a den mother, an educator and a professional ballet dancer all rolled into one. When you look at her long and lean physique it is clear that she has years of dance experience and is well versed when it come to fitness. Do not be nervous to take a class from her, because you will quickly see that ensuring proper technique and the best results is all she wants for her clients.
I have also had the pleasure of taking instruction from Elise Howard and Mallory Holmes. Both of these ladies have the same passion about wanting clients to get what is best for their personal needs. They exude lots of positive energy as well as a genuine warmth and concern for your well-being. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the three of them as they have all taken personal accountability in my overall wellness, especially knowing I have restrictions due to back issues. They truly will work with you to ensure your fitness journey is a positive one.
Education is very important to the staff. The facility conducts several courses and workshops that lead to teaching certifications in both Stott Pilates and Core Barre. Their passion for education extends outside the studio as well. Tim Fleisher, also a co-owner, founded the Myofascial Movement project in 2010. The goal of the project is to provide instructors with techniques based on the neuromuscular system in order to maximize ones movement patterns with daily activities. He is also co-authoring a book with a Stott Pilates project specialist that will provide training guidance for triathletes.
If you are able to visit the south Charlotte location, you will find an inviting studio that is full of natural sunlight and positive energy. It should also be noted that the studio is extremely clean, which is important when you are doing floor work! If you are a master of pilates or are looking to try something other than the traditional high impact and weight bearing styles of exercise, ABsolute Pilates should be on your list of places to try. They will take great care of you and make sure the workout is customized to your needs. You don’t have to worry about being a number and getting lost in the shuffle because here they will know your name and your history to ensure you have the best possible results and experience.
