Thirteen days. That is the number of remaining days standing between me and and an extra hour of daylight each evening. Not that I’m counting or anything…Yes on Sunday, March 11th at 2:00 a.m., (in honor of Daylight Saving Time) we will all “Spring Forward” and turn those clocks ahead one hour. Though that may mean your nightly slumber will be reduced by 60 minutes, it’s a small price to pay for an additional hour of sunlight at your disposal. Whether it be utilized to squeeze in an evening run, a twilight surf session, a few more holes at the golf course or even as the backdrop for sipping that happy hour cocktail al fresco, extra daylight is never a bad thing, in my humble opinion.
I will choose to honor the time change with scheduled late afternoon walks with my favorite walking buddy (my momma). And chances are, come mid-March, you’ll be able to find our Lululemon-clad selves strolling along one of the most picturesque stretches of the Pacific Coast -I’m talking about the path directly above Swami’s Beach in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA.
At just over two miles each way -measured from “K” street to just past the San Elijo State Beach campgrounds at Chesterfield Drive, it is the perfect bit of cardio needed to unwind after a long day stuck behind a computer screen. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself accompanied by a few dozen of your closest North County residents. This path is constantly home to many a dog-walker, jogger, runner and surfer alike. We usually park near the Self Realization Temple along “K” street and Highway 101, but there is plenty of street parking along the route as well.
With Spring well on its way, it’s the perfect time to check in with your New Year’s Resolution to honor a healthy lifestyle this year! So lace up your running shoes and drive down to the coast for a few miles of exercise and views that will remind you just how lucky we are to call San Diego home.
