The National Association of Professional Mortgage Women is an association that provides business, personal and leadership development to advancing women (and now men as well) in mortgage-related professions. The Valentine Wine Social was a great opportunity to talk with colleagues and to meet new contacts who share a professional commonality.
The event took place at the Shoal Creek Crossing Event Center underneath crystal chandeliers complete with a photo booth, savory appetizers and wine and cocktails. Michelle Goldberg, President of NAPMW Austin, helps to organize monthly events for the members including housing related seminars, tax analysis and time management; the events also serve as a networking tool for members to share ideas, news and techniques. Kristin Clardy, Vice President of Services and Resources for NAPMW, also plays a large role in planning the monthly meetings and special events. Kristin claims, “We always try to ensure that our meetings are educational and provide a value to our audiences.” Kristin went on to say that she feels fortunate to help others and see them achieve their goals. Kristin is also Vice President of Business Development for Venta Financial Group, Inc., a division of Alterra Mortgage.
I met Rob Randig, Vice President of Capital Farm Credit in Austin. Rob uses his knowledge of agriculture to help his clients when buying farm or ranch property and he offers sound advice regarding questions on agricultural properties. Rob says, “I enjoy sharing with my clients what may be a good fit for their property to carry on a wildlife or agriculture operation, or just a laid-back country home they can enjoy.” Rob went on to explain to me that almost every loan officer at CFC has a college degree in agriculture economics, animal sciences or business.
As I sipped my wine and enjoyed the spinach-artichoke dip at the social I bumped into Felix DeHerrera, Owner/Chairman at Alterra Mortgage. When asked what Felix does for a living, his response was helping families create wealth through home ownership. Felix says his inspiration to work for Alterra comes from his desire to “help Alterra’s employees to fulfill their goals, thereby helping clients to reach their goals.” Two of Felix’s favorite quotes to ponder are: “Luck is preparation meeting opportunity,” and “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”
After creating my custom cupcake at the Cup Cake Bar co-sponsored by Laura Rosales, realtor with Element Realty, I met Jennifer Kahler, Escrow Officer at Trinity Title of Texas. Trinity Title offers a “customized closing process” and insurance protection that is a permanent assurance that your ownership and use of property will be defended against claims. Jennifer was very enthusiastic about her company as well as all the great opportunities that NAPWM offers its members.
Later in the evening I watched the short presentation moderated by Michelle as she introduced several members of the organization and explained membership fees and all the benefits of becoming a member of the NAPMW including fun monthly events, seminars, continuing education and staying on the cutting edge of the profession.
