It’s not everyday that the graceful moves of a butterfly or the gentle sway of a blooming rose is captured in its purest form and presented on stage. February is black history month and Atlanta invite you to celebrate the African-American heritage in a dynamic rhythmic dance performance by the world-renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. From Thursday, February 16-Sunday February 19th at the Fox Theater, many from all over the Atlanta area will be present at this once in a lifetime opportunity to witness an explosive display of art in motion.
With its early beginnings in New York City back in 1958, that small group of modern dancers has transformed the way we now look at American dance. Alvin Ailey has to this day performed for over 23 million viewers worldwide at theaters and through the television screens. Now lead by Artistic Director, Robert Battle, described as “without question the creative force of the future”, one can only imagine how the performance will be.
Atlanta audiences will enjoy an inspiring collection of innovative premieres, repertory favorites and Ailey classics that extend the vital legacy of Alvin Ailey in exciting new directions including:
Home, a bold new work by hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris set to a soul-lifting score of house gospel music and inspired by the stories of people living with or affected by HIV
Arden Court, the romantic masterpiece by modern dance legend Paul Taylor
Takademe, a high flying and humorous solo by Artistic Director Robert Battle
The Hunt, Robert Battle’s explosive tour-de-force for six men set to a thundering percussion soundtrack
Revelations, Alvin Ailey’s signature must-see American classic
The Alvin Ailey organization is much more than a traveling dance group. Comprised of a dance school, summer day camp and community involvement programs the Alvin Ailey organization finds multiple avenues in which to give back to the community where they were founded. Capturing the essence of freedom, passion and pride this show will be one that should not be missed. Check back after the event to see the event review.
