Miss A Columnist

Megan Arpin is the Seattle City Editor for Miss A. A freelance style writer and editor, she's a regular contributor to Seattle Bride magazine and The Seattle Times' Shopping section. By day, you'll find her teaching fifth grade, braving adventures with her students, often while donning her favorite pair of faux leopard-print heels. By night, you'll find her exploring her beloved city, scouting events -- from
restaurant tastings and venue openings, to salon previews and fashion shows -- for the latest local phenomenon. When not teaching, writing, or attending fabulous happenings around the city, she loves to be inspired in one of Seattle's amazing neighborhood villages with a latte -- nonfat, no-foam, that is -- in hand, snapping photos and chatting it up with shop owners and locals for the inside scoop. If you have a Seattle charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Megan at megan.arpin@askmissa.com.

Recap: Third Annual Weddings In Woodinville Is A Seattle Success

It’s a well-known fact that planning a wedding tops the list as far as stressful experiences go. So, what if much of a bride’s work can get done for her in one, relaxing afternoon of planning and wine tasting, combined?

Last Sunday was one of my favorite “wedding shows” in Seattle, winery tour and wedding planning extravaganza Weddings in Woodinville. After the event made its debut in January of 2010, this was my second time attending (blame it on the research…and delish treats and wine), and definitely not my last. The tour’s grown substantially in the last three years, topping out at about 500 brides both this year and last. Translation? It’s one of the best events around to have your cake — and get table setting inspiration, listen to local musicians, check out the most on-trend invitation suites, see inside some of the best venues, and get a little tipsy — too.

To read more about the tour and all it entailed, check out fabulous Seattle Miss A writer Megan Phillip’s write-up of the event.

What stood out day of? Woodsy, elegant decor by Occasions, LLC at Willows Lodge was right on trend for 2012. The theme’s feminine details (hanging crystals from centerpieces by Aria Style and gorgeous textured, deep purple linens) were grounded with masculine elements (we loved the bark-inspired fondant-covered cake by New Renaissance Cakes and paper napkin “rings,” printed with the evening’s menu).

Pretty, peachy hues were mixed with olive green shades by Event Success at DeLille Cellars, a color palette perfect for any spring or summer affair. Miniature olive oil favors at each place setting followed theme, and special, customized treats — from apple piesicle pops by Lisa Dupar Catering to made-to-order espresso drinks by Espresso Elegance — made “guests” feel right at home.

At JM Cellars, a glass vase chandelier (fantastic do-it-yourself idea, created by hanging clear glass vases from metal framework and placing a lit candle in each), mismatched chairs and antique place settings set the stage for a vintage glam affair, all coordinated by MG Davis Events. Attendees warmed themselves at the winery’s fire pits and snacked on s’mores, which they created themselves using the nearby s’mores station, set up on — what else? — an overturned wine barrel. (Hint: A perfect guest activity idea for any beach, lake or poolside event).
