The Opening Night Benefit Gala kicks off Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s annual performances at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center. All proceeds support Ailey’s local D.C. outreach programs and provides scholarships for talented and deserving young dancers from the D.C. area to attend The Ailey School in New York.
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is a modern dance company based in New York, New York. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, the Ailey company has performed for an estimated 23 million people at theaters in 48 states and 71 countries on six continents — as well as millions more through television broadcasts.
