Celebrate Black History Month by personally experiencing and learning the lives of African American slaves. The annual Heritage Tour and Pilgrimage will feature three slave cemetery visits, a former slave church visit, and 50 other Charlotte and African American history sites.
It is estimated that Charlotte Mecklenburg had a population of around 6800 slaves. In addition to that number, there were approximately 295 free African Americans living in Charlotte in 1860. The tour will begin Saturday February 11, 2012 and occur each Saturday until February 25th. The tours will begin at 10 am and last until 4pm. Ticket prices vary from $16-30.
