Miss A Columnist

Megan Wolford is the Charlotte Editor for Miss A. She graduated from NC A&T State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and worked in the mental health field catering to adolescents with behavioral disabilities. In addition to getting her B.A., she has also studied African American Studies at The University of NC at Greensboro. She is a spoken word poet whom is particularly interested in art, fashion, and entertainment; therefore Miss A is her taste of paradise. Her other hobbies include movie going, shopping, music festivals, blog reading, exploring new restaurants and anything else that equates to a great time and new experience!

Charlotte Black/African-American Heritage Tour And Pilgrimage 2012

Celebrate Black History Month by personally experiencing and learning the lives of African American slaves. The annual Heritage Tour and Pilgrimage will feature three slave cemetery visits, a former slave church visit, and  50 other Charlotte and African American history sites.

It is estimated that Charlotte Mecklenburg had a population of around 6800 slaves. In addition to that number, there were approximately 295 free African Americans living in Charlotte in 1860. The tour will begin Saturday February 11, 2012 and occur each Saturday until February 25th. The tours will begin at 10 am and last until 4pm. Ticket prices vary from $16-30.
