Although it is still winter, here in Texas we are already gearing up for the summer weather and all that it brings. Included in this is one of the best forms of exercise: biking. Of course, this is good to do recreationally for health and fitness but in Austin we also host a number of charity rides. The Hill Country Ride for AIDS, an annual Texas bike ride, does not take place until April 28th but it is never too early to start training. To build up expectations and encourage participants to train, they are holding a series of events between now and the ride itself. It all begins on January 13th with the Kick-Off Party at Austin Music Hall.
This event features entertainment, food and good times for all. Between the Kick-Off and the ride there will be many chances for those interested in participating to meet with others who are involved. These combination social meet up and training events will start with a Cocoa Social on January 28th. The ride itself spans just one day and has a few different levels depending on the rider’s experience, with the shortest at just 13 mi and the longest 100 mi. Because of the flexibility, people of every age are encouraged to join in – even kids! Over the course of its twelve year history, this charity event has raised over 4.5 million dollars and they are hoping to take it this year to an even 5 million. Sign up today to ride or donate to an important and beneficial cause this year. The funds raised go directly toward charities who help those living with HIV and AIDS including AIDS Services of Austin, Project Transitions, C.A.R.E Program and more.
