Miss A Columnist

Dena Miller is the Dallas Editor for Miss A. She has been described by Style Network as a "Queen Bee". Formerly a glam rock scene Diva, Dena is now a Socialite on the Dallas philanthropy scene, specializing in Polo events that benefit women's and children's causes.

While never forgetting her small town roots from a Midwestern farming community in rural Missouri, she’s fit right in the “Big D” since coming here in 1984. After 11 years of promoting the music scene, hobnobbing with the most popular bands from coast to coast, she switched gears after meeting her husband at the first Polo match she ever attended. Always one for excitement, Polo became her new rock n roll.
With her marriage and new found passion for polo, came Philanthropy. Miller founded the Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas in 2005 with the goal of promoting the Sport of Kings in north Texas via charity events for causes that are close to her heart. To date the LPA has raised over $500,000 for causes such as domestic violence, children with serious medical needs, therapeutic horsemanship, the Polo Training Foundation, children’s advocacy and food drives for north Texas food Bank. When not working on her own events she is attending Charity luncheons and balls as well as volunteering at golf tournaments and Special Olympics events. She is a member of the USPA Equine Welfare committee and on Board of Dress For Succes Dallas.

Writing has been a lifetime passion of Dena’s. Besides working on a book that proceeds will benefit domestic violence organizations, and writing for two national polo magazines, is a frequent contributor to Dallas area publications, winning Best Contributor Award from Dallas Morning News Neighborsgo, she is co-authoring a book on the phenomenon of cyber bullying by adult women, referred to as Cyber Harrassment. Recap: Texas Multi Mamas Premiere Watch Party At Dallas’ Office Grille

Texas is hot for reality TV shows right now and it seems as though the The Office Grille is a popular place for hosting reality TV parties. When a network isn’t splurging for a red carpet affair and big screen viewing like Bravo did for “Most Eligible Dallas”, this sports bar is happy to replace football with Style or WE reality shows and offer drink and food specials. The Office hosted a full house of fans of WE TV’s “Texas Multi Mamas“ who came to support cast members Suz Steece, Teryn Todd, Casey Gerwer, Candace Hickey and perhaps even Stephanie Williams, although she wasn’t in attendance.

The delicious food and generous libations were well worth the wait and the show didn’t disappoint. Nervous cast members, not sure of how they would come across onscreen, viewed the edited version of months of filming their lives, with the room of family, friends and media. This show is as real as it gets. The cast members common denominator is that they are all mothers of twins, triplets or quadruplets (yes, four babies!). Hence, “Multi Mamas” is the reality of their lives. Their homes, cars and furnishings are modest, and they are actively raising their children, not nannies.

Kudos to WE network for finding a cast that honestly fits the shows premise and doesn’t try to pass them off as “elite” or ‘socialites”. Of course, no reality show would be complete without some drama. Any household with as many children as these families have in them are bound to have some drama and we saw some temper tantrums amongst siblings. The most interesting drama looks as if its going to come from Candace and Stephanie, who don’t seem to get along at all. Could it be that they are also the oldest and youngest in the group?

It looks like Stephanie is set to be the “Pam” or one we love to hate. Like Pam, she didn’t attend the party and was the only cast member that didn’t receive applause when they were introduced on the show.

Teryn is a real stand out amongst the cast. It was very brave of her to show the world what a woman’s stomach looks like after birthing quadruplets! By the look on her face, she wasn’t expecting that to be shown, but since camera’s were in the doctor’s office when she was consulting for a tummy tuck, she did know that it was a possibility. The love and support of everyone in the room was shown with a round of applause and cheers for her. We’ll be watching for her to show off the new abdomen in a future pool scene, perhaps!

Be sure to catch “Texas Multi Mamas” on WE TV Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

A very well written article Dena! Kudos for seeing through the network hype that follows these type of shows and pinpointing the true subject: they are mothers of multiples, not movie stars with nannies in tow. Drama or not, these are intelligent attractive women/mommies, who will hopefully be allowed to show how to they individually deal with the insanity and joy of multiples.

Apparently networks think the only thing that sells is drama….that is a shame because I doubt if these women would ever go looking for drama. They obviously have their hands quite full.

My hat is off to you “Mamas” and I look forward to this series

Love the show! Stephanie needs to grow up

I wish EVERYONE would get off Stephanie’s back. This is REALITY TV people which means they film the raw and EDIT it to make it into their own show. People who keep knocking Stephanie need to grow up and quit bashing her on public forums such as this. If anyone knew what that girl has to go through no only with this show but in life with one of her daughters, you would wish you could take back all the negative hype you have dished out. Better yet, you have the balls to be on a reality show, be portrayed as the “B”, and stand your ground to all the negativity people are screaming about you and see if you can survive it. She has way more important things to worry about than the stupid words that come out of your mouth!
