Miss A Columnist

Pam Renee is an original WHO DAT LOUISIANA girl, now dwelling in the suburbs of Dallas, which isn’t so bad of a distance when the craving for a spicy Creole dish, warm powdered beignets, or her favorite drive-thru daiquiri spot cannot be shaken. She flew the coop and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville obtaining a degree in Psychology, and relocated to Dallas. Afterwards, she moved to DC for a few years long enough to determine those brutal winters were not for her, relocated to Atlanta, and eventually came back to Dallas.
She can be described as a vogue-a-holic by default, a socialite by nature, and a shoe-preneur by trade. She delights in the unexpected, has a tongue in cheek approach to tradition, never wears just anything, miscellaneous is her favorite category, and lastly – is easily spoiled by all things fabulous and swanky.
After business hours and on the weekends, you can find her in her zone -- hosting or attending a fashionable event, turning the pages of her collection of fashion and lifestyle magazines to build her social calendar, or designing a stiletto inspired gathering via her mobile shoe bar, How You Shoe’In? pronounced in your best Wendy Williams voice. A lover of shoes since her first pair of pink plastic Barbie heels, she still loves the instant gratification that shoes provide, and has incorporated shoe themed events incorporating stiletto fitness, shoe themed apparel and accessories, and philanthropy -- where shoes are donated to women in need and includes an inspiration note to help remind them to put their best foot forward daily.
Pam loves the Big D (Dallas) because there is always a wide and various array of things available to do, so it has become the norm for her to try to be in two, three, maybe four places in one evening when her calendar gets really tight. She has unintentionally made a name for herself by being the GO TO person for friends, family, (sometimes strangers) desiring something unique, something fabulous, something chic, to attend, stay, entertain, dine, wine, network, or shop. All that she has suggested has remarkably always come back to her with great reviews.
If you have a Dallas charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa, or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Pam at pamreneepr@yahoo.com. You may also follow her on her very soon-to-be released personal blog at http://lifefabulousnessandthepursuitofswankyness.wordpress.com.

Pinky Promise: Purse For A Cure

Bubble gum pink is my signature color, so while standing in yet another long shopping line this week, I was intrigued with a handbag a sharply dressed woman behind me was carrying.  I found out that it was more than just a cute and rather unique handbag, but her way of sharing her personal story of surviving breast cancer five years ago. She shared with me her entire journey, pausing a few times as tears filled her eyes and as she became choked up, expressing repeatedly how much more special Christmas time is to her, since it was around this time of year five years ago that she was initially diagnosed.  She hopes that by carrying her Beijo handbag, it will continue to give her an opportunity to share her story of triumph and remind women to get their annual mammograms.

Later, I did my own research on the company Beijo, and found that it was designed by Susan Handley, a single mom struggling just to make ends meet, with no prior business experience. With the encouragement of her friends, a loan from her father, and the desire to make a better life for herself and her toddler son, Kyle, Beijo was launched. It was Kyle, in fact, who provided the name for his mom’s company. “Beijo”, which means “kiss” in Portuguese, was his second spoken word.

Handley designed this bag as her Pinky Promise and a labor of love, with 35% of the sales of this bag being donated to three  fabulous organizations that were instrumental in helping her own mother successfully battle breast cancer – Breast Cancer Network of Strength, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Breast Cancer Society. Your purchase  ensures that no one faces cancer alone, and will help to raise funds to benefit  research and patient support, both locally and nationally.

Pinky Promise is a medium size handbag with a detachable shoulder strap, a zip top closure, interior zip compartment, cell phone and PDA pockets and hardware feet along the bottom provide upright support and additional protection. This bag has been designed with a unique, meaningful profile that speaks volumes, without you ever saying a word !

This purse retails for $95 and for ordering information, (think of me as your personal shopper with the fee waived), I have located you a Beijo Handbag Consultant at www.RBritton.beijobags.com and all you have to do is mention seeing this on Ask Miss A! Pinky promise.
