Miss A Columnist

Amanda Ivarra is a graduate of Texas A&M University. After graduating with a degree in Health, she moved to Austin and started working for a national non-profit organization. She spent 5 years coordinating community events and programs. After leaving the organization, she started to focus on her creative pursuits. Currently, she is working on developing her own jewelry line. Writing has always been a hobby for Amanda. For most of her life, she’s kept journals. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to take her writing public and began blogging and guest blogging. The one thing this girl can’t live without is music. Not really one to sing or play an instrument, she just loves music. Perhaps, it’s the songwriting that she admires so much or a good beat that she can dance to. Whether she’s attending a concert with friends, hanging out with the guys watching sports, volunteering in the community, hiking or visiting the newest places in town, Amanda lives to enjoy life. But, nothing brings more joy to her than being able to make someone smile or laugh!

Cocktail For A Cause At W Austin Benefitting SafePlace

Here’s something to drink to, W Austin is serving up the Celebration Libation, a specialty cocktail benefiting SafePlace. They’re donating half of every drink purchased between now and December 30th to the non-profit organization.

“W Austin is honored to benefit SafePlace with half of the proceeds from our signature Celebration Libation cocktail,” said General Manager Drew McQuade.  “The work they do toward ending sexual and domestic violence is incredibly important, and we invite the Austin community to contribute by joining us in the Living Room through the end of December.”

Now, I’m not sure how the professionals rate cocktails.  But, as a recreational cocktail taster, I give this a “Mmm, that was good!” rating followed by “Again!”  For those of you not familiar with my rating scale, it’s a pretty favorable one.

A fun and flirty cocktail, it’s a sweet little thing made with the following:

  • 1.5 oz Tito’s Vodka
  • 1 oz Ginger Honey Syrup
  • Muddle with two lemon slices and five sprigs of mint
  • Topped with soda

Most of all, it’ll satisfy your thirst for supporting a good cause!

“SafePlace thanks The W Austin for boldly standing up against domestic violence and sexual assault and choosing us as the charity for this exciting one year celebration. The W is a renowned hotel and we are thrilled they are using their momentous influence in the community to bring awareness to and raise money for SafePlace,” comments SafePlace Executive Director Julia Spann.

The W Austin celebrated its first year in Austin on December 9th with cocktail and appetizer specials, a champagne toast and a disco dance party.  If you didn’t make it down to The W on the 9th, don’t worry.  You can still catch the celebration.  TRACE and the Living Room are marking the occasion with month-long food and drink specials.
