His artistry as a hair maven has graced the pages of magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and Cosmopolitan. Davide has also worked with scores of fashion designers from Marc Jacobs to Narcisco Rodriguez to Betsey Johnson. He came to New York City via Hollywood from his native Milan after a stint in Paris working with couture fashion designers.
From the relaxed glamor of his intimate New York City salon, we chatted and Davide introduced me to his line of hand-crafted natural hair products. Based on the functionality of top brands, he created a unique line that is free of petroleum, sulfite and alcohol. Tried and tested by models and his clients they have developed a cult following. Not only a genius at what he does, he uses his success to support many diverse charities by donating products and gift certificates to raise money for their organizations. As a special bonus, he breaks down two stunning holiday hairstyles for Miss A readers into a few easy steps.
This casual updo he said, “combines a Hollywood feeling with an approachable casual elegance.” To achieve it do the following:
1)Updo’s work better on hair washed the day before, he explains. So shampoo the day before with a daily shampoo as the PH neutral Oxygen Daily Shampoo ($20) from his line that equalizes hair and add a thickening lotion such as his Meticulous Lift Thickening Lotion ($23) that provides incredible shine.
2) Divide hair into three sections: the top layers, the back and the crown of the head and tease each section.
3) Leaving the crown loose, separate back and top teased sections into two to three inch chunks, twist the tips and use bobby pins to insert the tips into the base you have created.
4) Finish with a light hairspray such as his weightless High Definition Hairspray (($23).
Next, Davide explains the steps to this polished, wavy down style. Reminiscent of old Hollywood glam (think Grace Kelly) it suits the red carpet or a holiday party equally well.
1)Start with a setting lotion and a low part.
2)Skip the curling iron and use medium sized steam rollers which are less damaging to the hair, easy to use and leave your hair with incredible shine. Try the Caruso SalonPro Molecular Steam Hairsetter ($49.99).
3)Section the hair into rows and roll the first section on each side of the part forward from the crown of your head. Roll the next sections backwards then continue alternating the way you roll your hair: one row forward and one row backwards.
4)After allowing the steam rollers to cool, take them down, flip head upside down and use a flat brush such as the Mason Pearson Boar Bristle Hairbrush ($99) to brush hair.
5)Flip head up and brush the waves smooth. Then shake your head to allow the waves to fall into place.
6)Finish with a medium hold hairspray and prepare to be fabulous!
