If you’re looking for some holiday fun that won’t break the bank, visit Janke Studios for WinterGlassFest ’11 – A Celebration of Frozen Sand. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon with family, learn a new craft, and shop for unique holiday gifts. Best of all, admission is free! WinterGlassFest features Glassblowing Exhibitions with owner Matt Janke, Flameworking Demos, live music with the Mike Watson Band and The Pacha Mamas, and much more. Kids Interactive Hour, Craft Corner, and Glassblowing Class Drawing offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to discover the joys of glassblowing. You can even tour the Open Artists’ Studios or explore the market for the perfect gift.
Located at Studioplex in the Historic Martin Luther King District, Janke Studios is Atlanta’s first complete glassblowing center. Matt and Kim Janke designed this studio to educate and promote the art of glassblowing throughout the Southeast. Both beginning and experienced artists are welcome to use the studio’s state of the art equipment including a 300 pound furnace, glory holes in three sizes, and color furnace. The studio also offers classes at all levels. By enrolling, you’ll have the opportunity to study with some of the finest craftspeople in the Southeast. Virtually all of Atlanta’s glass artists have honed their craft here including Jim Shumate, Tadashi Torii, Algar Dole, Mike Allison, Alex Craig, Kristin Malone, Bob Myers, Becky Bennett and The Kargs.
