Eager for adventure, inner growth, and a new environment, she packed her car and took to the open road on her own landing in her new home - Hollywood, California. As a Connecticut Yankee at heart, she has now lived in Los Angeles for five years surrounded by the stars.
Melissa graduated from Gettysburg College with a double major in psychology and art history. Soon after, she earned a Master's Degree in education. Melissa traveled around the world on Semester at Sea, and earned a Fulbright Scholarship which enabled her to teach in England. A lust for travel and learning has fueled her globe trotting ever since. Some of her favorite destinations are Thailand, Fiji, Morocco, Vietnam, Belgium, Italy, Sicily, Prague, Egypt, Australia, Greece, and Paris.
Los Angeles has won over her heart. She is constantly taking advantage of what LA LA Land has to offer - new salons and restaurants, finding great deals, discovering new hikes and beaches, music, and West Coast fashion. Spiced Cider: Perfect Fall Party Drink BY Melissa Curtin

The say when you throw a party you should always have a Signature drink. This Halloween I will be headed down to San Diego again for spooky fun festivities and since my friend is throwing a party, I am going to make my easy mulled spiced cider and keep it brewing on the stove. I also call it a hot toddy. It always smells so good when brewing on the stove because it makes the whole house smell and feel like fall. I enjoyed a similar concoction on the streets in Prague and Vienna years ago and drinking it transports me back to that freezing cold time. People would drink outside and keep their hands warm with this flavorful ‘feel good’ drink.
Mulled Cider For Halloweenie:
Beautiful Christmas markets in eastern Europe. Mulled cider and mulled wine is sure to keep you warm on the streets.
On a stove in a large pot, mix together the following ingredients:
1 Gallon of spiced apple cider (They sell a great one at Trader Joes)
2- 8 cinnamon sticks
allspice berries
cloves
1 orange, thinly sliced (before cutting, jam the orange with a bunch of cloves)
(You can add lemons or apples, if you wish, thinly sliced)
1/2 cup light rum or apple schnapps
Simmer on your stove for 30 minutes or on low all evening. Use a ladle to serve in nice mugs. You can add a touch of cinnamon on top or even whip cream. YUM!
