Tickets are still available for the annual two-part SafePlace Celebration. On Friday, SafePlace hosts their luncheon at the Austin Convention Center and on Thursday the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar will hold a screening of the 2000 film “Erin Brockovich”. Join the real Erin Brockovich, special guest of the Celebration this year which will include a question and answer session. At the luncheon, Ms. Brockovich will present her talk “Take It From Me” about how one person can truly make a difference. Over 1,000 people will be in attendance to hear her inspiring words.
As October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, this is the perfect time to aid in SafePlace’s important cause. The funds raised by these events help the organization in their fight against sexual and domestic violence in the community. For over 35 years, they have worked to help struggling victims and to prevent violence from occurring. SafePlace Celebration brings people together to discover the stories of those who have escaped domestic violence or abuse and to learn how each one of us can make a difference in the fight against it. This Friday, allow yourself to be truly moved and let another woman’s triumphs serve as reminder of why it is important to do work for others and give back to the community.
