Paris Fashion Week is the grand finale of all the shows for a reason, there is a certain magic about the designers and the magnificent collections they put on display. This year in Paris we saw an overall trend of sea inspired looks with a timeless yet futuristic vibe. The three designers who brought the best of the best for Spring 2012 were Alexander McQueen, Balmain, and Manish Arora. In the Alexander McQueen collection Sarah Burton kept Lee’s vision and aesthetic in mind by the recognizable head pieces, broad shoulders, and defined waists, but added a bit of her own vision with a feminine light feel in the craftsmanship. A soft color palette of nudes, lavender, creams, and gold pop with statement red pieces throughout the line up. These things alone make Alexander McQueen on the top of the list, and I speak for myself and I’m sure the fans as well that Burton is doing an excellent job carrying on this amazing legacy.
Balmain may be an unexpected pick for the top three, but if you take a look at the flow of this collection in terms of how effortless and casually chic it is you will begin to understand the talent it takes to wrap that all up into one line. Balmain represents every look from the bad girl to the country girl and it makes sense, all while tying in a futuristic hint with the lined patterns that give off a cowboy alien vibe. Bravo, Balmain!
Finally, Manish Arora brings fantasy and fun to fashion with the color, lines, and shapes that are out of this world. Of course selling pieces in retail is a huge part of this industry, but we can never forget the art that is clothing. When everything begins to blend together, suit after suit, dress after dress, a creative vision and new ideas are a breath of fresh air among the normality of “ready to wear” pieces. It is hard to choose only three to put on top, so don’t miss out on all the other gorgeous collections from Paris including Chanel, Balenciaga, Gareth Pugh, Pedro Lourenco and many, many more.
