According to Women’s Wear Daily, Jason Wu is the newest designer for an affordable fashion line for Target. After the major success of the recent Missoni for Target launch which sold out almost immediately and had the website down for hours, there is no doubt this line will be just as successful. Target has teamed up with high fashion designers in the past such as Sonia Rykiel and Isaac Mizrahi. Collaborations like this have been becoming a major trend in retail with lines like Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s, Lanvin for H&M and Christian Siriano for Payless. With such affordable price points while still maintaining the designer’s signature aesthetics these pairings have been perfect for the everyday fashion loving woman. Not every Fashionista can afford the luxury of the designer names they see on the runway and in fashion magazines and lines like Jason Wu for Target are changing all that.
Target has been using their Twitter account, @TargetStyle to drop hints to their followers about their newest designer. The first hint was that the designer began sketching the future of fashion at 5 years old. The next three hints included Twitpics of a light blue and yellow pattern used in the collection, the designer’s sketch book, and their pet cat and inspiration. “I’m obsessed with details, they make a garment special” was the next clue, a quote from the designer themselves. If you hadn’t guessed it yet, the last hint was the fact that the designer has an international influence.
Jason Wu is not only my personal favorite designer, he is also a perfect choice for Target due to the wearable quality of his clothes. I’ve always founds his collections to be super ladylike and chic with a business casual yet girly feel. At a Jason Wu show, the women look like they could actually be going to work, out to a cocktail party or walking the city streets in their everyday life.
While Target may not be the first store you think of when you want a design right off the runway, they are really stepping up in the fashion world. The limited edition spring collection will hit stores and Target.com starting February 5, 2012. Target Fashionistas and Jason Wu fans are sure to start saving up and planning on waiting in line!
