Recap: Marc By Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 At New York Fashion Week

On Monday, Septermber 12th the younger crowd of fashion gathered at The Armory to see Marc Jacob’s Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection. As editors and fans fanned themselves in the hot venue, it felt even more like a summer day as Marc’s spunky spring/summer pieces walked down the runway.  In true Marc Jacobs style, the show started precisely at 8 p.m.  Elle Fanning was among the younger crowd looking cute and stylish in a red dress. It-girl young models Karlie Kloss and Lindsey Wixson were just two of the many male and female models rocking the cool collection.

The Marc by Marc collection was not only fun and summery but casual and extremely wearable.  Watching the show was like being at super trendy beach or pool club where everyone is young, sexy and well dressed.  While Marc Jacobs knows how to be high fashion and more serious with his collection, the Marc by Marc collection is much more relaxed and has tons of personality.  Even the music for the show consisted of pop songs such as Rihanna remixes and Britney Spears’ “Don’t Keep Me Waiting.”

Yes, the venue was hot, but so were the clothes.  Add some sand to the Armory and it would have felt like a full on beach party.  Looks were accessorized with sunglasses, visors, brightly colored patent sandals and sneakers, and tote bags.  Pieces ranged from cutesy bathing suits with polka dots and ruffles to casual day wear of shorts and T-shirts while still including some dressier pieces like color blocked dresses and suits.  Orange and navy blue were a major theme of the show, done in solids, stripes and plaids in a variety of pieces. Turquoise also made a strong appearance, adding a pop of color to the collection in dresses and bags.

Menswear pieces included pink and turquoise suits with rolled up pant legs, orange and plaid zip ups and jackets, and  printed bathing suits and tops.  These were not your typical suits heading towards Wall street, as all the looks were styled with sunglasses, sneakers and colorful bags.  One of my favorite menswear looks was a short sleeve grey sweatshirt layered under a white button down and paired with orange and blue plaid shorts.  Marc by Marc truly shows ready-to-wear in a very literal sense as pieces that can be easily worn on the streets but still stand out as high fashion with their bright and colorful hues.  As yet another Britney song played, the show ended with a personal favorite, a black strapless top and high waisted pink pants as “Til the World Ends” played.  To me there is nothing a girl can love more than a high waisted pink pant, Britney Spears and a fun summer fashion show!
