While New York Fashion Week just ended there is nothing like a red carpet to keep the fashion excitement going! This Sunday was the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards and like always, the red carpet stole the show. Despite her over the top posing, Lea Michele still managed to look amazing in a red floor length Marchesa with embellished shoulder detailing. Although Kelly Osbourne stated early in the night that Marchesa was only dressing one celebrity this year, Elisabeth Moss also wore a intricately detailed nude and gold Marchesa gown. One of my best dressed picks was Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen in a sparkly black and silver Oscar de la Renta gown accessorized with a sleek side pony tail and simple jewelry. Modern Family was a huge winner of the night and so was Julie in this amazing Oscar gown! Heidi Klum wore a dress by former Project Runway’s contestant Christian Siriano. I loved how she supported a Project Runway designer and looked great in a very conservative length dress compared to her usual style. Another gorgeous look was Grey’s Anatomy and Charlie’s Angels’ star Racheal Taylor with a chic blond hair cut and shiny silver strapless gown. As for the men of the red carpet, Mad Men‘s John Hamm looked handsome as always in a Tom Ford tuxedo.
While Gwyneth Paltrow is one of my absolute favorite stars and usually blows me away with her sleek Calvin Klien red carpet gowns and great fashion sense, I was less than impressed with her choice for the Emmy’s. She wore a see-through Pucci gown with a bare mid-driff. Another usual favorite that fell flat was Diana Agron. Her high necked bright blue dress did nothing for her compared to her past winners like her vintage Chanel and J. Mendel gowns. Zooey Deschanel is one actress I love especially for her cute 50’s inspired fashion and personality but her puffy pink Monique Lhuillier dress just didn’t win me over.
One thing was clear from the beginning, red was a major trend on the red carpet! While it may seem a bit cliche to go red on a red carpet, joining Lea Michele in the trend was Giuliana Rancic in Roberto Cavalli, Nina Dobrev looking amazing in Donna Karan, and Kate Winslet in Elie Saab. Almost as exciting as the red carpet is the E’s Fashion Police Emmy’s special this Monday, September 19th. The special judge this week is one of my absolute favorite women in the fashion industry, Fashion director for Marie Claire and Project Runway judge Nina Garcia! Nina’s great fashion eye and genuine personality combined with Joan River‘s hilarious and wildly inappropriate commentary is sure to make an entertaining and fashionable show!
