Navigating between the plethora of West Campus eateries can be a daunting task. Factor in a serious hankering for sweets and you might find yourself between a rock and a hard place. Every three or four steps you’re on to the next trendy restaurant and as magnificent as they be, they’re no cupcake bakery. As for that sweet tooth, soothe the aching and stuff your face with some seriously tasty treats from Polkadots Cupcake Factory.
Located on the corner of Rio Grande and 28 1/2 Street, Polkadots is within walking distance from The University of Texas campus. Don’t let the enchanting bungalow fool you, these cupcakes are truly ethereal. Perfect for a quick study break or small pick-me-up, cupcakes from Polkadots are affordable and satisfying. With twelve in-store varieties, 5 daily flavors with 7 rotating daily specials, Polkadots is sure to keep the picky eater happy. Even better, Tuesday’s mean cupcake happy-hour. From 5 PM – 8 PM cupcakes are just two dollars and with flavors such as “the black bottom” and “the dirt”, you know they are bound to be scrumptious.
As for some of the plusses, Polkadots delivers. For deliveries to the UT area, West Campus or Downtown, the fee is $3.00 for a minimum of 6 cupcakes. Delivery around the greater Austin area is about $1.00 per additional mile. Secondly, custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies can be special ordered for specific events and occasions; such as weddings or engagement parties. Third, Polkadots can accommodate a multitude of diets. These include gluten free, sugar-free, dairy-free or egg-free cakes, just be sure to give a 72 hour notification.
So, if you’re looking to give in to the sugary temptations of one of the cutest bakeries in Austin, definitely stroll on in to Polkadots Cupcake Factory. The shop may be modest but the flavors are anything but.
