Face Me Fierce: Makeup Artistry with a Mission

Perhaps it is her personal story that makes the creator of Face Me Fierce so amazing. Originally from Abbeville, South Carolina, Janelle Black moved to Atlanta at the age of twenty. She found work at a hair salon and started honing her skills as a makeup artist when she began an apprenticeship under the salon’s owner. Before long, she was working as a top Atlanta area artist, doing makeup for weddings, photo shoots and music videos. In spite of her success, Janelle had bigger aspirations.

In January of 2010 with nothing but her makeup case and a dream, she boarded a bus and headed to Los Angeles. Business was slow going at first. Unemployed and even homeless at one point, Janelle reached out to Dress for Success, an organization known for helping disadvantaged women. With their help and her own determination, Janelle persevered and eventually found work in her field.

She launched Face Me Fierce Makeup Artistry in May of 2011. Her business and client base continues to grow at a rapid pace, and she is currently in the process of branding her own line of cosmetics, aptly to be called Face Me Fierce.

However, the thing that makes this beauty entrepreneur most outstanding is her heart for giving. A strong believer in the empowerment of women, Janelle gives back by donating her services, as well as a portion of her proceeds to organizations such as Dress for Success (the same organization that helped her) and Minority AIDS Project, making this makeup diva’s generosity the best beauty tip of all.

Janelle continues to work as one of the top talents within the industry in both Los Angeles and her hometown of Atlanta.
