Join the Philadelphia Orchard Project this Saturday in support of their community-based mission to plant urban orchards in Philadelphia. POP operates with the help of volunteers and local groups to facilitate the planting of edible orchards by providing the training and materials needed to create spaces to grow food in the city. The completed orchards are owned and maintained by community-based organizations and are planted anywhere from vacant lots to schoolyards with a focus on low-income neighborhoods.
The festival will take place in the beautiful two-acre greenspace of Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties and will feature five local bands including:
Eric Carbonara & Jesse Sparhawk
Zillion & Blood Like Mine
The festival will also feature beer from the Philadelphia Brewing Company and food from Honest Tom’s Tacos, Dapper Dog, and Buttercream Cupcakes.
POP will also be selling fig, raspberry, and strawberry plants and more to spruce up your own garden.
Last year POP succeeded in planting five new orchards and expanding twelve existing ones. They also won a $15,000 grant from the Green Heroes Sustainable Innovation Network.
