The fabulous Wendy Williams hosted the 28th Annual Garden Party on June 20th, 2011, in support of the LGBT Center.  The Center is a staple in the LGBT community, offering a welcoming home to over 300,000 visitors each year.  The Garden Party was truly a delicious kick-off to Pride Week.

Held at Hudson River Park’s Pier 54, the Party hosted a “Foodies” Silent Auction.  Some of my favorite items were: two VIP tickets to the taping of Iron Chef America and tour of the Food Network, a cooking lesson in your home with chef Jeremy Spector of the Brindle Room, and a $200 Gift Certificate to Seamless Web.

The Garden Party wouldn’t have been complete without a plethora of food and beverage from some of the tastiest restaurants, caterers, and food trucks in New York City.  Never one to turn down a sweet treat, I particularly liked the Banana and Red Velvet Whoopie Pies from This Chick Bakes.  Rokk Vodka sponsored an open bar for the evening, complete with gentlemen clad in Gladiator attire.  A little eye-candy to go along with your cocktail!

With tunes streaming from the speakers such as “Going To The Chapel” and “Love and Marriage”, the theme of the evening seemed to focus on marriage and equality for all.  Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer proudly stated during his speech, “No one should get married in New York unless everyone can get married in New York.”  He also noted, “Change is coming very soon.”

The hostess of the evening, Wendy Williams, pranced on the stage with her classic, “How you doing?!”  She received roaring applause and lots of laughter from the audience when she declared, “Marriage is not easy.  If I suffer, you should suffer!”

As the sun set over the Hudson River, friends both old and new gathered together with a renewed sense of unity, solidarity, and pride.
