Literally one of my favorites things in the world is olives. Maybe it’s because I am Italian or maybe its because the go in my favorite drink, (preferably stuffed with cheese) but the fact that there is a bar named Olive in San Francisco meant I had to check it out. So this Friday I took my Happy Hour crew to the Tenderloin district of San Francisco and hung a left on Olive Street (mainly to get my picture with the street sign) and another left onto Larkin…there it was!
As we approach the building, nothing too special, in fact one of the crew nudged me as if saying “oh we’re actually gonna stay?” and what a surprise once the door opened and the smell of pizza dough and olives filled the air. It was clean and the people were immediately friendly. They sat us in the back area (most of the tables are for 2-4) and since we never travel in a pack that small we called ahead for a reservations. The lounge seating is comfortable and menus delicious, my eyes immediately focused on the Ultimate Olive Martini– Gin or Vodka with goat cheese stuffed olives, three olives not two, I was in heaven. Also an option, filthy martinis not just dirty! Others went for the watermelon, chocolate hazelnut, the gimlet, and the always-delicious Lychee Martini. (Happy Hour 5-7pm Monday-Friday, all house drinks $5).
I decided to order the Basil Martini with my meal to spice things up. It was like a salad in my mouth, I highly suggest it for a hot summer day. Sticking with the five-dollar theme, we only ordered the appetizers that were $5-olive tapenade and the ceviche style calamari. Then the waitress told us that they have eight-dollar pizzas until 7pm, so we loaded up on the tomato and basil pizza, wild mushroom and truffle oil, and Olive’s pizza of the day. I have to be honest; this place knows how to present olives in every possible way. If you didn’t like olives before, let Olive change your mind and blow your taste buds away!
