Nail Trend Alert: Orange is Color of the Season

If there’s one color that represents Spring/Summer 2011, it’s orange! Everything from orange lips to orange blush is all the rage in the beauty world this season. With the sun out and warm weather to bask in, it makes perfect sense why orange is the hue of the moment. With the orange inspiration in mind, it’s no surprise that many collections from the most popular nail polish brands feature this bright and festive color. Whether you want to rock a soft shade of orange on your fingernails or be less discreet with a bold tone on your toe nails, there are enough oranges to go around.

Essie – Essie’s latest collection, Braziliant, includes six new shades for summer, two of which feature the color of the season: Braziliant and Meet Me At Sunset.

Braziliant is a rich darkened orange with bits of white shimmer. As “a hot orange with a touch of shimmer” it definitely represents the entire collection well.

Meet Me at Sunset is more on the orange-red side, but is just as fun and vibrant with a cream finish. It looks like the shade of a tomato just before full ripeness.

Where to Buy: CVS or Wal-Mart, $7.75-8

OPI – One of OPI’s summer collections features a fun shade of orange for the more daring in its six-shade Sephora by OPI Safari Luxe Collection: Once a Cheetah, Always a Cheetah.

Don’t they come up with the most clever names? Once a Cheetah, Always a Cheetah is definitely the stand-out color of the collection as a bright orange with golden yellow glitter.

Where to Buy: Sephora, $9

China Glaze – The Island Escape collection by China Glaze has six vivacious shades. One in particular is the neon of neons in this hot hue: Papaya Punch.

Papaya Punch is a very bright yellow-tangerine cream and is described as being a crème based vivid orange. If you want bold, this shade will deliver.

Where to Buy: Sally’s, $5.99

Zoya Zoya Summertime Collection has six cream finish shades for the summer and one shade is orange-based: Tamsen

Tamsen is definitely more on the red side, but has a rich, orange-base with a creamy finish. Blood oranges are oh so good for you.

Where to Buy: Zoya.com, $8

Whether you like to stay simple with a crème finish or go all out with glitter and shimmer for days, there’s plenty of room within this trend for everyone to take their orange pick.  Orange you glad I didn’t make a corny joke using “orange?” I couldn’t help myself.
