Miss A Columnist

Emily Meier is a recent transplant to Charleston. It became clear to her a few years ago that Charleston, with it’s amazing people, culture, and proximity to the water, had her by the heart. She realized this on the way back to Michigan after a visit with friends and she started to cry. She just didn’t want to leave Charleston. The lady at the airport gift shop thought she was crying about leaving a guy. When Emily realized she was crying about leaving a place, she knew she’d be back. A graduate of Denison University she also holds an MFA from Bennington. Currently, she teaches college English (writing and literature) and works as a freelance editor helping potential MBA and law school candidates prepare their essays. With friends and family all over the states, Emily enjoys traveling and is always up for a trip in support of a cause.

Shrimp & Grits Kids Hand Smocked Clothing Opens in Mount Pleasant

The Old Village of Mount Pleasant has been buzzing with excitement as Shrimp & Grits Kids clothing gets ready to open its door this Wednesday, June 15th.

Shrimp & Grits Kids is a line of high quality, hand smocked children’s clothing whose products are actually affordable!

Owner and designer Megan Hewitt, a South Carolina native, uses her surroundings, Coastal South Carolina, as inspiration for her designs.  With designs like Rockville Red Drums and Edisto Alligators, Shrimp and Grits Kids designs are fun, original, and well priced.

Hewitt started Shrimp & Grits Kids clothing line after having her first daughter, Ella, in 2005. Unable to find cute and affordable smocked clothes, Hewitt was inspired to find an alternative and Shrimp and Grits Kids was formed. Shrimp and Grits Kids started selling online in April of 2007 and immediately sought a larger market and began hosting trunk shows all over the South.  Since then, Hewitt’s family has grown (her second daughter Lyla Gray joined the family in 2008) and so has the business with over 120 shows per season, selling in 10 states. And now there is the store!  So you can pop in any time and find just the right thing for your little ones.

Stop in Wednesday!
