Roma Boots: Buy One Stylish Rain Boot And A Child Living in Poverty Gets One, Too!

SimplySoles of Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, and National Harbor, MD are now selling Roma Boots, the buy one/give one rubber rain boots for women and children. SimplySoles owner Kassie Rempel is the first retailer in the DC region to sell Roma Boots. The boots in beautiful all-season colors — Glossy Navy, Glossy Plum and Matte Grey– are priced at an affordable $78, and are available at the SimplySoles stores and on their website. They are perfect for rainy days, marinas, gardening and outdoor events.

Roma Provisions is a hybrid company that combines business with charity. It designs and sells rain boots primarily in the United States while its nonprofit subsidiary—Roma for All—distributes boots to children living in poverty. The company’s goal is to sell boots to the fortunate and give boots to the less fortunate through a “one for one” model inspired by TOMS shoes. For every pair of Roma Boots sold, a pair is given to a child in need.

Kassie Rempel, Founder of SimplySoles.com

SimplySoles.com founder, Kassie Rempel says, “We are committed to giving back and are honored to carry the Roma collection, a company taking the lead in marrying fashion, function, and social responsibility.”

Founded by Samuel Bistrian, 29, who immigrated to the United States from Romania when he was a small boy, Roma takes its name from the children it hopes to benefit—the Roma population of Central and Eastern Europe. Commonly known as Gypsies, the poor, nomadic people face widespread discrimination. In the winter months, neglected and orphaned Roma children must endure the rain, snow and mud with inadequate shoes or too often no shoes at all. Bistrian saw rain boots as the most practical solution to this grave situation and started the venture in 2010. With each purchase of Roma Boots, a child living in the street will enjoy a new pair of boots packaged with a coloring book and crayons in bag that doubles as a backpack.

In 2010, Samuel and his team of family and friends distributed 1000 pairs of boots in three Romania villages. He will send more boots to Eastern Europe and will travel to Guatemala this spring with a cargo of boots ahead of the annual rain season.

Samuel says, “Our mission is to keep feet warm and dry by providing a comfortable, durable and practical pair of Roma Boots to every poor child living in cold and wet climates.”
