We all know wine making is not conducive in Chicago. Yet, we Chicagoans love drinking it. In recent years, wine bars have popped up throughout our city, often serving top-quality wines that are lovingly produced in the U.S. as well as a far. And fortunately for us, a handful of wine bars have opened offering a chance to sample a wide range of new hipper blends.

Swirl Wine Bar This cozy bar near North side offers a slick bistro and sells wine by the glass, bottle, or half bottle. This hip bar has an extensive wine list that includes several up-and-coming wines. Visit to relax, listen to great local DJ’s, and drink quality wine.

The Tasting Room Located in the West Loop, you’ll find this swanky establishment, which might be the best place in town to get a taste of truly great vino. With a beautiful view of the city from upstairs, The Tasting Room sells wines in flights or by the glass or bottle, stocking a wide variety from hundreds of different wines, including many hard-to-find bottles. Wine can be paired with small plated meals of artisanal cheeses, chocolates and small tapas-style dishes.

Miss A Tip: Join their Facebook or Twitter account for deals including: three-course dinners for $20 from 5-10pm (dates are announced online). Every Monday for entire night, The Tasting Room offers half price wines by the glass.

Bin Wine Cafe In the nearby Wicker Park neighborhood, is this charming boutique that takes an even more focused approach. At the Bin Wine Cafe the focus is as much on the food as on the wine. The bar has a long menu of small seasonal and mostly organic dishes, many of them made with ingredients bought from local farmers and rustic breads, and 20 different artisanal cheeses.
