Miss A Columnist

Susie Wong is an original Miami denizen born into a multi-cultural family and bred on sun and sand. As a self-certified gastronome and critic, she is religiously on the prowl for novel and innovative cuisine. However, she can definitely indulge and be equally sated by a furtive local dive—which she believes are truly the pins in the haystack that is Miami. She’s an interior designer by trade with a passion for the pen, art, music, dance, and needless to say, great food.

Haven Lounge on Lincoln Road

Haven is a nook in a cranny of Lincoln Road and set between Alton Road and West Avenue, outside of the bustling scene.  It’s a contemporary breath of fresh air and a culinary success for those seeking a little more variety on their forks.

The ambiance is cool and true to its name in that it cannot be described any more appropriately than a lounge.  There is no dining room per se, just low banquets and loose round leather stools dotted around mini cubed, wooden tables as well as a separate eat-at bar. The digital wonderland boasts large hidden LCD’s behind walls bearing mutable images which wrap the restaurant (perfect for game nights).

Victuals served here are laced with rich tantalizing flavors.  A smorgasbord of petite plates makes up the girth of the menu which is a masterpiece of combinations and profiles showcased in everything from their salads to their desserts which are undercut with a hint of molecular gastronomy.

Start the night off with a signature cocktail, or a dandelion or kelp salad, and then roll over to a Swedish meatball or diver scallop skewer.  The slider portion of the menu bears the most indulgent yet delicate duck meat patty with foie gras butter topped with a crunchy shallot and parsley salad.  A perfect amalgamation of location, atmosphere and impeccable food is definitely more hit than miss at this late-night lounge.
