The gourmet food truck explosion has finally spread to our area.  I’ve been seeing a lot of food trucks on my outings to Miami. I’ve indulged in their treats during Wynwood art walks and in Ft. Lauderdale while at other art shows. I guess they gravitate towards South Florida’s bohemian, artsy, crowds and they have been big in Los Angeles and New York for a while now. Yet, I haven’t seen many in Boca Raton. Well, they’re here….

On Wednesday, May 11th at Boomers Boca Raton there will be a Gourmet Truck Expo! Obviously, this is not an artsy hangout so it may potentially expose the idea to the main stream.  What’s great about this event are the choices, perfect for those who like variety.  You will find anything from your basic hot dog, Argentinean and seafood, even slow cooked meats.  So you can explore and try a few things.

Some of the food trucks at the expo are 4 Alarm Pizza, which not only offers pizza but also has PS3, Xbox and Wii game consoles on board.  Blue Tree Café offers healthy on-the-go fare. Curbside Gourmet, which claims to be Palm Beach County’s first mobile gourmet eatery – props to them for bringing this awesome concept to us neglected Northern-South Floridians.

I’m looking forward to having a frita from Grill Master Cafe . I hear they have one of the best! I can finally fulfill a Latin food craving in Boca – unbelievable.  There’s even a cigar truck, Smoking With The Caballos. Sounds like a blast! There will be 25 food trucks featured in all. A DJ along with specials on Boomer’s various attractions will entertain you while you graze.

I’m so grateful to gourmet food truck buff Jochen Esser who organized this event with the hopes of bringing the idea to the Palm Beaches.  An article in the Sun Sentinel posts the question “Are Broward and Palm Beach ready for the gourmet food trucks?” I say yes, I am. There are some hip people living here and we deserve a slice of modern culture. I would love to have lunch off a food truck while at work in downtown Ft. Lauderdale – what a novelty.

It’s just a matter of getting the word out and showing people this is something fun, delicious and affordable. Once that’s accomplished (hopefully) they will come!
