Spring is upon us and with spring comes spring cleaning! Yes, that’s right. It’s that time of year again, when we are supposed to turn our homes upside down and dump out all of the junk we have accumulated over the past three, hoarding seasons.
If you’re like me, you often get caught up in the excitement of ridding yourself of things you do not need. You get ecstatic when a room starts to look like a room again because the mountains of clutter have suddenly disappeared. You clean and clean and clean until you cannot clean anymore because there is barely anything left to clean. Then, you stop and think: what am I supposed to do with all of this space? You finally have room for that desk you’ve been thinking about putting in the office, or a chic stereo system in the living room. Better yet, you’ve given away half of your closet, which only means you now have room for a new spring and summer wardrobe! Doesn’t this sound great? Aren’t you excited for all of your new things? Of course you are, but you are also probably wondering where to start looking for all of these fabulous new additions to your home.
Well, have I got news for you. The Junior League of Dallas will be holding their 2nd annual Rummage Roundup Sale in the Freeway Hall of the Dallas Market Center this weekend on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 7 AM to 4 PM and Sunday, May 1st from 7 AM to 3:00 PM. Admission to the event is free! Additionally, there will be a Bag Sale on Sunday, May 1st from 10 AM to 4 PM. Rummagers pay $5 for a bag and take home all they can fit in it! Plus, there is not a limit on the number of bags you can purchase! In order to prepare for the big Bag Sale, start practicing your bag stuffing skills at home…room by room. It will at least keep you preoccupied until the actual sale this Sunday.
Proceeds will go to the Community Service Fund of the Junior League of Dallas. The Community Service Fund supports over 40 local non-profit organizations with their financial needs. In previous years, the Junior League of Dallas has raised $1 million to support Dallas non-profits. This much needed financial support is due to the JLD members’ 120,000 hours of uncompensated volunteer work, donations, and events such as the Rummage Roundup. This year, the sponsors of the Rummage Roundup include Tootsies, Extra Space Storage, Whitley Penn, Facelogic, Clear Channel Outdoor, KatyDid Collection, Cowboy Cool, My Fit Foods, Southern Fried Paper, Dry Bar, Prophet Equity, L. Bartlett, and To The Nines.
For the past couple of months the Junior League of Dallas has been collecting donations of new and gently used items, such as designer clothes, furniture, office equipment, home electronics, books, sports equipment, toys, and more. Any unsold items will be given to the Genesis Women’s Shelter.
For more information about the Rummage Roundup, visit the event’s website. For information on volunteering for the event, you may contact Kirby Stuart, the Rummage Roundup Chairman, at email@example.com. Volunteers may also sign-up through www.volunteerspot.com.
