Miss A Columnist

Lauren Farris currently works as a Stylist, and for a private label apparel company as a Sales Manager/Mass Merchandiser. She writes on the side to express her creativity, frustrations, and share funny little life stories. She currently writes fashion articles for eHow.com and has a blog about her oh-so-fun life. She was born and raised in Arkansas where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and accounting, only to find her true passion was fashion. She moved to the bay area to attend FIDM for design and merchandising. She enjoys traveling any chance she gets, whether it is a quick camping trip, wine tasting in Napa, hitting the slopes in Tahoe, or trips to see one of her many siblings in various places around the world. She has traveled to over 20 countries and plans on many more. For fun she loves to eat at new restaurants, experiment with her own cooking, host fabulous dinner parties (she could put Martha to shame), treat herself to spas, and feed her shopping addiction. She is a member of a book club, Museo Italian (for language classes), and attempting to not be kicked out of her knitting circle (one of her down falls). Lauren moved to San Francisco about 2 years ago and continues to find new and exciting things to do every weekend.

Dell’Uva Wine Bar

If you have been to some of the snob hill wine bars and have been disappointed in their friendliness and menu, maybe you should try a more low key one in North Beach.  Whether it is sunny outside with the wall of windows open for people watching or it is cold and rainy and you sit in one of the corner pockets with pillow topped benches or you want to belly up to the bar -it is a great place to enjoy nice people, good wine, and delicious appetizers.

Dell’uva, meaning “of the grape” in Italian is the spot to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine or meet up for a happy hour drink before dinner.  Nestled in the middle of North Beach (on Green Street between Columbus and Jasper) it manages to remain quiet and off the beaten path.  They have a nice selection of wine from around the world that changes every month and small plates to put a halt to those cravings.  My suggestions: The Bruchetta, which includes crostinis, slices of fresh mozzarella and a garden picked mix of bruchetta, Bianca Pizza complete with truffle oil, mushrooms, two cheeses, garlic and artichoke hearts and lastly the Pecan Tart which is deliciously topped with port chantilly cream (insert wiping drool from face now).  All the above mentioned for only $5.50 each!  The staff is always enjoyable and knowledgeable about their wine list and menu.

The ambiance changes with the weather and the time of day.  Bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch, live music on the weekends and happy hour every weeknight  from 5-8pm. It has comfortable seating inside and out…and it’s dog friendly, what more can you ask for from a “casual wine bar”?
