Genesis Women’s Shelter 18th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon

Genesis Women’s Shelter will be hosting their 18th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon on Thursday, May 5th at the Hilton Anatole. This year, distinguished American journalist, author, former news anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, Tom Brokaw, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Mr. Brokaw will be “speaking as the Voice of a Generation,” honoring our forefathers who survived the Great Depression of the 1920s and fought in World World II, not only overseas and on the battlefield, but at home by contributing their time, materials, and resources to collectively aid in the war effort. By speaking about the productivity and determination those who came before us, Mr. Brokaw hopes to encourage a new generation to spring into action and get involved in the fight against domestic violence.

Tom Brokaw.

In 1998, Tom Brokaw wrote The Greatest Generation, a book honoring the parents of the baby boomers, who laid the groundwork for America to become the global superpower it is today. In his book, Mr. Brokaw stresses that the greatness of this generation lies in the fact that they fought unselfishly for what they believed to be just, not for personal gain, wealth, or accreditation.

As an individual, Mr. Brokaw has won numerous prestigious awards, such as the Peabody Award for his report entitled To Be An American, the 1998 American Legion Award, the 1998 Fred Friendly First Amendment Award, and the 2005 Four Freedom Medal for Freedom of Speech and Expression. He has authored multiple books, which have received high esteem and respect among American society.
