Spring into Spring with an At-home Citrus Sugar Glow

Who doesn’t like a spa treatment? They are part of life’s little pleasures. Sadly, as busy as we are, it can be tough to find the time to take a spa break. And, while the cost is worth it, going to the spa is not free. So, what’s a girl to do? Mix up your own spa treatments at home! I recently chatted with the very creative Mindy Terry. Based in Atlanta, Mindy creates treatments for some of the world’s leading spas through her role as President of Creative Spa Concepts. Mindy wants to help all of us live a Spa-Inspired Life, so she shared some of tips as well as an amazing spring scrub recipe.

“Since I was a little girl, I have loved mixing up spa treatments in the kitchen,” said Mindy. “It’s so exciting to see what comes out of combining a drop of honey, some yogurt and olive oil.”

At-home spa experiences are a great way to save money as most of the items are already sitting inside your pantry or refrigerator. When you need to buy supplies, Mindy suggests buying local as it’s great for the community and the products are the freshest you’ll find. It’s also fun to invite a group of friends over for a spa party and gather in the kitchen to make scrubs and masques. Mindy added, “I’ve seen spa parties work great for birthday parties (teens love them), holiday gatherings, baby and bridal showers. Your guests will leave with great looking skin, smiles and fun memories!”

Ready to try? Rid your body of winter-weary skin with the Citrus Sugar Glow. The Glow has a fresh scent and bright color to sweep away the old and let fresh, smooth skin emerge.

Citrus Sugar Glow

You will need:

  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 TBS Honey (if you can find local, it works best)
  • 1 small Lime
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Essential Oil of Lemongrass
  • Essential Oil of Sweet Orange

Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into a bowl. Set aside the halves. Add sugar and honey to the bowl. Saturate the mixture with a blend of sweet almond oil and jojoba oil (approximately 1/4 to 1/3 cup of oil). Blend the mixture with a small spoon or spatula until smooth. Add 7-10 drops of lemongrass oil and 3-6 drops of sweet orange oil and mix well. Use a small grater to zest the peel of the lime halves over the mixture and blend together. Store in a clean plastic, glass or tin container.

In warm shower, apply small amount of mixture to the body. Scrub gently in circular motions. Rinse. Lightly pat the skin dry and follow with your favorite skin moisturizer to enhance the benefits.
