Alexis Parramore Comer grew up in Valdosta, Georgia and Summit, New Jersey. After graduating from Davidson College, she moved South permanently living in Charlotte for 10 years, then moving further south to Charleston with her husband. She has fallen in love with Charleston and enjoys the laid-back vibe, beach, and plenty of cultural events to keep things interesting. Her goal is to have a new and different experience each week, and take full advantage of what Charleston has to offer. Alexis is a mother of two young girls, and owns an online clothing boutique, Style is 4EVER. Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding’s Open House Fundraiser

Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding is holding their third annual open house called “In the Company of Horses” coming Sunday, April 17 from 4-7 p.m.  There will be wonderful music by South Carolina Broadcasters, great paella from Stono Cafe, live and silent auctions, and a craft fair that you should not miss!  Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance, $30 at the gate, and $10 for children ages 10-17.  The barn is a lovely place to spend a Sunday evening!

MISSION STATEMENT:

Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding improves the lives of children and adults with disabilities at the area’s oldest nationally accredited therapeutic horseback riding center.

CATR staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping students find joy and accomplishment through equine assisted activities and therapies. The center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and has served individuals with a variety of disabilities and conditions since 1991. With the assistance of certified instructors, physical therapists, doctors, psychologists, special education teachers, and a well-trained volunteer corps, it now serves over 140 children and adults per year whose disabilities include:

  • Autism
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Downs Syndrome
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Mental Health Illness
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Speech/Language/Hearing Impairments
  • Spina Bifida
  • Seizure Disorder
  • Traumatic or Acquired Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairments
