Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York Hosts Wine and Wishes 2011 With Celebrity Hosts

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. You can help raise money for this wonderful organization (not to mention have a fabulous time) at the 2011 Wine and Wishes benefit event!

On March 30th, please join the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York at their benefit, Wine and Wishes.  Now in its 8th year, Wine and Wishes shines as one of the premier wine events in New York City, offering both exquisite wine and gourmet food.  Since inception, the benefit has raised over 3 million dollars to go towards granting the wishes of local NYC children.  These wishes provide children and their families with hope, strength, and ultimately an amazing memory to share together…something we can all raise our glasses to!

Wine and Wishes will be hosted by CBS The Early Show Co-Anchor, Chris Wragge, CBS2 News Anchor Mary Calvi, and CBS2 Weatherman Lonnie Quinn.  Special guests include Chef Dave Martin from Bravo’s hit series, Top Chef, and Craig Schulman, star of Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, and Jekyll and Hyde.  Many of New York’s finest restaurants will be participating in the event.

The benefit will also offer a silent auction, featuring around 170 items, including those in the categories of: fine wine, entertainment, travel, sports and art.  There will also be a live auction, featuring 12 items such as: travel packages, rare wines and spirits, and other luxurious wine-related packages.

I have a special place in my heart for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Several years ago, my younger sister Kristen was diagnosed with cancer.  Seeing her go through chemo was devastating, and it was an all around dismal time with not much to look forward to except trips to and from the hospital.  However, a volunteer from the Make-A-Wish Foundation met with her and explained the program, and the prospect of having something exciting to look forward to really helped the months go by a little easier.

Kristen's Wish Come True

Always one with a passion for classical studies, Kristen’s wish was to go on an archaeological dig, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted it, sending her and my family to Athens, Greece for a ten day dig.  Volunteers from the Foundation covered every aspect of the trip, from getting us to the airport in the States, to having volunteers in their Athens Make-A-Wish Chapter meet us for coffee and show us around the city.  Everyone was so kind and genuine, and after everything my sister had been through up to that point, this wish was literally a dream come true.  I speak from first-hand experience when I say the Make-A-Wish Foundation is truly amazing, and absolutely worth donating to!

If you can’t attend Wine and Wishes but are still interested in helping to make wishes come true, there are many ways to do so!  You can make a donation through their website, donate airline miles, support or organize a future fundraising event, or volunteer your talents and time!

Stay tuned for a post-Wine and Wishes article, complete with photos and interviews documenting the evening’s festivities!  We hope to see you there!
