Whether or not you’re Irish or just a fan of green beer, San Francisco’s St. Patrick Day Parade is an annual event worthy of the trek. This year marks the 160th year where local Irish, as well as various elasticities from all walks of Bay Area life unite in Saturday smiles to enjoy the spirited festival. This Saturday the glittering parade of green and gold will take over much of Downtown San Francisco, beginning at the corner of 2nd & Market Street and stretching on until the Civic Center Plaza. Folks can find the heart of the festival at the San Francisco Civic Center Plaza from Polk to Larkin Street. Judging by past visits at the parade, I recommend heading over before noon being that the parade begins at 11:30 A.M. lasting until the early evening. Needless to say the crowd usually consists of festive, fun and happy-go-green sporting folks both young and old.
As a loyal participant to most San Francisco festivals, I encourage all those seeking a fun-filled Saturday filled with live bands, arts and crafts and plenty of shamrock decor to BART or Muni it Downtown to get in the spirit of the Irish holiday. Here’s to a safe and happy festival. Hope to see you all there, cheers!
