There is something special about having brunch in NYC with your family. The kids get excited for their favorite meal and parents love that they don’t have to cook and can (somewhat) leisurely enjoy good food and coffee with their loved ones. One place that combines everyone’s love of food and a kid-friendly environment is the NYC-based EJ’s Luncheonette on the Upper West Side.

I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a hearty (and somewhat healthy) brunch at EJ’s and am excited to report that this cute eatery is more than just an impressively decorated diner. Featuring a two-sided menu, kids and their parents will easily find something that they love ranging from healthy fare like the EJ’s chef salad or the granny smith chopped chicken salad, fresh fruit bowls, or the low fat cinnamon honey granola to fun food items like burgers (there are over 12 burgers on the menu, including a veggie option), French toast, omelets, buttermilk pancakes and sides of bacon, muffins, and sausage. After tirelessly looking over the menu and going back and forth between the limitless options of yummy treats, I finally decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. My little one wanted her standard restaurant favorite – grilled cheese with steak fries – and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros complete with two pieces of thick toast and home fries. We were excited by the yummy and comforting food options that were not only delicious but that left us full and satisfied. Not only is the food delicious; I personally loved the cute vintage-inspired décor that included old food posters from the 1960s and 70s and an old-fashioned lunch counter to enjoy a Lime Rickey or Malted Milkshake or slice of EJ’s pie.

Even though we arrived during the ‘brunch rush,’ we never felt rushed (despite the growing line) and enjoyed our food, service, and more importantly, our time together.
