Philz Coffee: It’z the Best in the Bay!

Several times per week I make my way to the Mission District to this funky little coffee shop where Phil Jaber, founder and alchemist, has been making coffee “One Cup at a Time” for over 35 years.  My favorite cup of coffee in San Francisco?  Hands down, #13 – “It’z the Best” from Philz Coffee.

When I make my way directly to the brewing station at the end of the  to place my order, I am greeted by a reflection of my own happiness by one of four cheerful employees.  I frequent here often and am also usually greeted with a pleasant, “Good morning Brooke!”  Philz’ staff are ambassadors to his mission and leave you with an unforgettable experience and every time you enjoy one of the complex blends that have been created from as many as 7 different types of beans from around the world.

demanding tones.  I order it with sugar, cream, and fresh mint and proceed to the register where on the way I cannot resist choosing something from the case full of locally made pastries, including many vegan options.  As I enjoy my cup of coffee, I feel like I am at home.  There is always great music and familiar faces.  There is a sense of community as Jaber collaborates with many local businesses and takes pride in contributing to his neighborhood.

It’s no wonder Philz is expanding!  Aside from the original location on 24th and Folsom, where his passion was cultivated out of Gateway Grocery until it was renamed Philz Coffee in 2003, there are six other locations throughout the Bay Area.  A new location in Palo Alto is also scheduled to open in June near University.  Growing and spreading love and passion around the world with the same quality and welcoming in each store is a priority for Jaber as well as having fun along the way.

Next time you are craving that cup of joe, head on down to your nearest Philz Coffee where you can experience many years of expertise firsthand.  For hours and locations, please visit their website at www.philzcoffee.com or call (415) 834-5933.
