Miss A Columnist

Marlene Hall grew up an army brat and has lived all over the world and in Washington, DC. Since an early age, she has played sports including soccer, basketball, and swimming; receiving three letters in high school for sports participation. Marlene graduated from the University of Virginia where she wrote for the Cavalier Daily and interviewed popular 90's bands including No Doubt and the Goo Goo Dolls. Commissioned an Air Force officer, she served in Korea, Germany, New Mexico, and Louisiana. Marlene earned two masters degrees while in the Air Force in Management and IO Psych. After leaving active duty, she has worked as a government contractor, freelance writer and public relations executive. Marlene dabbles in improvisational comedy and has taken classes at the famed iO Theater in Chicago. She is very active in the DC charity and social scene and contributes her time to DC Humane Society's Fashion for Paws. She also was a supernumerary in the Washington National Opera's Carmen with opera singer Denyce Graves. An extrovert at heart, she has never met a stranger. Marlene loves journalism, attending events, meeting people and making things happen. She lives by the motto, "The best way to predict your future, is to create it."


In 6 weeks, GarmentDISTRICT has turned a vacant building at 1005 7th Street, NW, Washington, DC, at the corner of New York Avenue and 7th St. NW (right next to the convention center) into a 10,000 square foot fashion boutique and art gallery featuring local artists and designers.

This pop up is managed by two nonprofits. This Friday is the big fundraiser that will keep their doors open for the entirety of the run (February 18- March 20, 2011). It’s an AMAZING space.

This Friday, February 18, they are hosting a launch party from 6p.m.-10 p.m.  It’s one half gallery/shop opening in our space at 1005 7th St. NW, one half dance party next door at Lux Lounge. So something for everybody!

garmentDISTRICT is accepting applications from local designers who would like to be featured in the retail boutique through March 1, 2011. Click here if you are interested, or check back for updates on our featured designers!

Here’s how you can support:

1) Buy a ticket.  They’re only $10… total steal. And if you pre-order you could win $100 deal bucks from LivingSocial! All the funds directly support the project.

2) Make ALL your friends buy tickets! Invite them to garmentDISTRICT Facebook event, send them the website, call/text/smoke signal them to turn out.  No carrier pigeons, though.

3) Come. Dance (5 fantastic DJs at Lux). Shop (dozens of artists and designers at the space).
